As our boat from Koh Lanta pulled into the pier on the island of Koh Phi Phi, we could already see a man holding a sign for our hotel ‘Bay View Resort’. We departed the boat and approached him, he had a list of bookings due to check in that day and we ticked our name off the list and then had a short wait at the pier for the hotel taxi boat. Bayview resort is located to the right side of the island as you arrive from the pier. The taxi boat to the hotel from the pier took not even 5 minutes but it saved us a good walk with our heavy rucksacks in the 30 degree heat.
We weren’t the only ones from the boat who were checking in at Bay View Resort. Therefore, upon arrival, reception was busy and the process of checking in for us wasn’t the quickest. However, we didn’t mind as we waited in the lobby, enjoying the views of the beautiful bay and had also been provided with a fresh orange juice welcome drink. Once we had checked in, a driver helped us with our bags into the golf buggy and drove us up the hill to our hillside bungalow. He then carried our bags into the room and checked everything was okay for us before leaving. The room itself was a fair sized, modern, well kept room. The bed was nicely made. Our towels on the bed were even rolled into the shape of elephants- a very nice touch!
A minibar fridge, and complimentary tea and coffee were provided in the room. The bathroom, was also a fair a size, with good powerful shower, and amenities such as cotton buds, shower caps, soap and shampoo all provided. Although, it did seem slightly more dated than the bedroom and we experienced some minor issues with the toilet not flushing very well.
However, the main selling point of the room was without a doubt the balcony. Stepping out onto the balcony we had a wooden decking with glass panel fencing, two sun loungers and a small side table. The views overlooking the bay from here were incredible! As the bungalow is nestled in the hills at the side of the island, you could look down over the whole bay, seeing the crystal clear bay and sandy beaches. They obviously don’t call it ‘Bay View Resort’ for nothing. I would definitely say that this is the highlight of the resort as it is probably one of the best views you will ever see from a hotel room, the location and surroundings are absolutely stunning.
After checking out the room and balcony views, we decided to check out the pool at the resort. The pool is located at the far right side of the resort. It is a good sized pool, surrounded by trees which creates a very peaceful atmosphere. There is also a swim up bar and a small massage hut onsite- perfect for relaxing!
After an hour or so at the pool, we then decided to walk in to the main town centre. The town centre is in the middle of the island and only about a 15 minute walk from Bay View Resort. This means that the location is ideal if you want to be able to escape all the loud partying of the island’s nightlife but still be close enough to join in it all when we you wish. We stayed out at the main town centre that evening for dinner and drinks, experiencing all the party atmosphere of Koh Phi Phi at night. But we were happy to then be able to return to a peaceful resort and get a good, undisturbed nights sleep in a comfortable bed.
The next morning we woke up early in order so we could catch the 9am boat to Phuket. We went down to the resort restaurant at about 7.15am. The buffet breakfast here was of an excellent standard. There was a large selection of dishes available: cereals, fruit, toast, pastries, traditional Thai dishes, a salad bar and an egg station. As well as the tea, coffee and various fruit juices which were also provided. We enjoyed our breakfast and the staff in the restaurant were very friendly and attentive, which is always nice to wake up to in the mornings!
After breakfast we headed back to the room to get our bags together and then check out at reception. Check out this time round was a nice speedy process- just what you want when you have a boat to catch. The women behind reception was very pleasant and wished us well as we left.
Our stay in BayView Resort was short but sweet, we would of loved to have stayed longer and explore more of the facilities (they also have a spa and fitness centre available for guests to use which we didn’t get the the chance to due to our 1 night stay). Overall, BayView resort is one of a kind, due to its prime location nestled in the hillside of Phi Phi, and its spectacular views overlooking the world famous bay. I would highly recommend it to anyone travelling to the island of Phi Phi.
