Family Guesthouse: Koh Samui.

Upon arriving at ‘Family Guesthouse’ in Koh Samui, we were directed to a narrow side-door along the side street of ‘Family Restaurant’. In this small room was the reception area. We were greeted by a Thai women behind the desk who did not speak a great deal of English. Nonetheless, we managed to check in and she had a young girl from the restaurant kitchen show us to our room.

Our room that we were taken to was basic but most importantly it was very clean! It even smelled fresh as though it had just been cleaned prior to our arrival! The bedroom itself didn’t have much colour or decore, however the bathroom was slightly more colourful (see photos above). The room also had a balcony where you could sit out…. And face the wall of the next building straight infront. All be it not the best designed, after discovering plastic covering on the wall sockets, we soon realised the room itself was fairly new. We could of in fact been one of the first guests to stay in ‘Family guesthouse’.

That evening, we went out to explore the local area and find out what was situated around the guesthouse. Directly across the road, there is a 7 eleven supermarket, a tour and travel booking store, and a bakery and coffee shop- all very handy!

After about a 20/25 minute walk down to the left, passing numberous other restaurants and shops, we arrived at the center of Chaweng. This is where all the nightlife is! We walked passed countless bars, clubs and ladyboy shows along with even more restaurants, shops and market stalls. Therefore, if you don’t mind the 20/25minute walk, the location of ‘family guesthouse’ is perfect for those who want to be close to the heart of Chaweng but not located bang in the middle of all the hustle and bustle (which would be rather noisy at night).

We only stayed at ‘Family Guesthouse’ for one night and didn’t manage to use any other of their facilities such as their restaurant, therefore I cannot provide an I depth review on the quality of the service experienced (also due to the language barrier when checking in and out). Although the women behind reception did her best to communicate and make sure everything was okay with our stay.

For us, the main selling points of this guesthouse were the cleanliness, location and value for money! If you don’t mind everything else being pretty plain and basic then this is the place for you!
