Hotel Vila Lumbung, Seminyak: Bali.

As we arrived at the hotel we were greeted by a very grand reception area that looked out towards the pool and the rest of the resort. The staff were very welcoming and provided us with great service as we checked in, we were even were provided with a complimentary fruit juice and mint scented towel to freshen up from our journey.

As we made our way to our room, the porter insisted on carrying both our bags. We were checked into an upper floor bungalow. It was tucked away in the corner of the resort which made it very peaceful. As we walked in and up the stairs we first noticed the beautiful high wooden ceilings- just like we had seen at reception. Then as we reached the top of the stairs we had a comfortable corner seating area that could double as a bed and was surrounded by windows. The room had a comfy king sized bed and a very large balcony next to it which looked out over the gardens below.

Stepping down into the spacious bathroom, there was a showering area to the left with good sized powerful shower tucked away in the corner. To the right side of the bathroom there was a large mirrored, make up area and wash hand basin. Other amenities in the villa included a flat screen TV, fridge, safe, desk and phone. In the bathroom there was also the essential amenities such as soap, shampoo, shower gel among others such as shower caps, cotton buds, and body lotion.

Later on that evening Gillian and I were shown around the resort by some of the friendly staff members. We were shown the different styles of rooms that were available- there is certainly plenty to chose from! The most standard rooms available at the resort was the ‘superior double’. This room is still of a very decent size, including all the standard amenities such as a TV, safe and tea and coffee making facilities. For anyone who wants to visit as a large family or group, there is a huge ‘three bedroom villa’ available. This villas ground floor is mostly open plan with the kitchen opening up into the dining area and living room. The bathroom, like the rest of the house is huge and is very modern and homely. Up the stairs on the first floor, there is a huge walk in wardrobe and then a twin room with its own en suite bathroom. The villa then had another set of stairs leading up to the second floor with a double bed in the middle of the room. This room also had lovely views of the gardens down below. After seeing all the rooms available at the resort it was clear that no-matter what type of room Gillian and I had decided to go for, we wouldn’t have been disappointed.

After being shown about the resort we were absolutely starving so decided to just head down to the resort restaurant for food. At first we were concerned that the food would be expensive since it was such a lavish resort. However, to our delight, we were wrong! It was very reasonably priced! Especially when considering the standard of food that was presented to us.

As well as this, we probably went a bit overboard with the cocktails. We ordered a variety of different cocktails off the menu after our meal. Every one we tried was well presented and tasted absoultely delicious. Our food came to a total of 160000IDR (around £8) and the drinks were between 60000IDR and 90000IDR (£3-£4 per cocktail).

After such a great lunch, we decided to also go back to the hotel restaurant for dinner. Gillian opted for the chicken teriyaki served in a crisp bowl with with rice and I went for a good old pizza. The food tasted delicious yet again, the pizza was actually probably one of the best that I have had since starting our travels.

Even although we were pretty full after dinner (and yes, more cocktails as well ) we couldn’t resisit ordering a dessert after gawking at the menu. The deserts were unreal. I went for an ice cream sundae and Gillian had a chocolate mousse cake. My sundae was huge! and Gillian’s plate looked so good, decorated to perfection with chocolate and raspberry sauce (see photo below). She didn’t even want to ruin the design by eating it, but she was glad she did as it tasted even better than it looked!

The next day we woke up to more food! The hotel provides a breakfast buffet every morning included in the price of your stay. The last thing we needed after over indulging the previous day was an unlimited buffet, but the food was yet again of too good a standard for either of us to refuse. There was plenty on offer with a variety of cooked breakfasts, fruit, cereals, salad, bread, pastries, and even freshly made pancakes!

After breakfast we decided to head down and relax by the pool before booking an afternoon massage. The pool area is really well designed with two large sections. There is an upper pool area with a basketball net to keep the kids entertained and a lower pool are with a swim up pool bar for the adults. The sun loungers had padding on the top which was even thicker than some mattresses we slept in whilst traveling. The resort also provides towels for all of its guests. We enjoyed relaxing by the pool for the majority of the morning before having our massages by the poolside at 1.30pm. The massage tent was ideally located, slightly hidden in amongst the bushes around the pool but close enough to look out and get a good view of the pool as we were getting massaged. Gillian and I both had a full body massage and both our masseuses worked in sync with each other. It was a 60 minute Thai massage, covering our back, shoulders, legs, feet, arms, chest and head. We were both so relaxed we were almost asleep by the end of it. Originally, we had planned to spend the rest of the day surfing but after our massages we decided we were too relaxed and remained relaxing by the pool before heading out for the evening.

The following day was our last at Hotel Vila Lumbung, we had previously booked a day trip on this day to turtle island. Pick up for this trip was at 8am and we weren’t expected to be back until 1pm. Originally, check out time at Hotel Vila Lumbung is 12pm, however after explaining our situation to the staff members behind reception they very kindly offered to extend our check out time till 1pm. This is the kind of service that we found ourselves constantly receiving during our stay, the staff were continuously exceeding our expectations and going above and beyond. Overall, our stay at Hotel Vila Lumbung is one that is surely memorable to us. Here, we had the chance to experience the beauty of Bali, at a prime location, with stunning facilities, incredible food and a standard of service which was second to none. I cannot recommend Hotel Vila Lumbung enough to anyone traveling to Bali and I will definitely be booking to go back on my next trip to Bali.
